The Lifeboat Enthusiasts’ Society was formed in 1964. A Newsletter, issued three times a year, gives details of recent station allocations and includes technical papers and items of historical interest. There are regular features for lifeboat modellers and detailed reports on the whereabouts of exlifeboats. Photographs and articles submitted by members make a significant contribution to each edition. A group of members is responsible for maintaining and restoring the lifeboats in the national collection at the Historic Dockyard at Chatham in Kent. Reports on their progress are also a regular feature. One major benefit to members is an annual handbook. This details in full the offshore lifeboat fleet both current and past together with listings of inshore lifeboats and tractors, carriages etc. Although in the main a correspondence society, meetings are held from time to time during the year, one on a regular basis at the London Boat Show in January. There is also an annual meeting in October at the Chatham Historic Dockyard. If you have a serious interest in lifeboats this could be the society for you. |
